<p>The abbreviations SEO and SEM are often used in similar or even identical contexts. If you&#8217;re not familiar with the whole search engine marketing scene it can be tough to find out if there&#8217;s any difference between the two at all. But as with other kinds of &#8216;insider&#8217; terminology, appearances are deceptive.</p>
<p><span id="more-1466"></span>SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. SEM stands for Search Engine Marketing. So you see, they are different. To understand better, SEO is anything you do to your page to make it more search engine friendly. SEM is anything you do to get higher ranks in search engines, such as, search engine optimization, requesting back links, and submitting your URL to search engines.</p>
<p>It?s important to know the difference between the two terms; make sure you ask for all information if your unsure before going and spending money on a SEO or SEM package. For example, a company offers you a package, if you don?t ask and get all the information, you might be buying into a package that merely is the company submitting your website URL to a few search engines, something you can easily do yourself.</p>
<p>Now some important information to be sure to follow. Get a list of all the search engines they plan to submit it to and websites like Yahoo!, Google, and 100&#8242;s More! do not count. Ask if they will keyword your site and if they include META and ALT tags. They last important tip is to get a list of specific things they plant to do to help surfers find your website.</p>
<p>Finally, it doesn&#8217;t really matter what services are offered, as long as the company uses &#8220;SEO&#8221; or &#8220;SEM&#8221;. Although, SEM will be more valuable than SEO, because SEM includes SEO as well as other marketing strategies. Even though im sure not all companies are the same in packages. Just simply put, the company could just be charging you for what you could do yourself. If shopping, look for websites with noteable backgroundsand ask about all services offered. Eventually, when you feel your research is sufficient and you know you will get the best value for your money, you can proudly make a efficiently wise decision.</p>

<p>A search engine, such as Google and Yahoo, are tools that allow users to find information on the World Wide Web by searching with a specially designed tool. The results of a search are organized into a list which includes web pages, information about them and links to them. In some cases, it includes images. Search engines are operated algorithmically in conjunction with human editing.</p>
<p><span id="more-1142"></span>Web crawling, indexing and searching combine in that order to obtain the most accurate results. Mass amounts of information on millions of web sites are stored and then retrieved relevant to the user&#8217;s request. A web crawler is also known as a spider, it analyzes every link and indexes all information for faster retrieval.</p>
<p>Descriptions and meta tags are analyzed to determine the type of webpage and its purpose. The meta tags are behind the scenes in the webpage and the viewer never sees them while browsing the page. The search engine uses them as a quick scan to get the idea or theme of the page and then the entire contents of the webpage will be evaluated to ensure the tags are correct and the page is valid.</p>
<p>Companies such as Google store all or part of the source web page, while AltaVista stores every page word for word. The information stored and indexed is known as the cache, it allows for instant updating and keeps the searching filtered with ease. An important factor for a successful search engine is its ability to provide active and useable information with minimal to no linkrot. The cache also saves an archive of a removed source that can later be access by the user after the site is updated.</p>
<p>Search engine users normally input a keyword or key phrase into the search field. The engine will search for their particular keyword and key phrase on the World Wide Web. The search engine index will provide an organized list of results with the best matched web pages. A short summary of each webpage describing the contents is provided along with the list.</p>
<p>All the search engines look to enhance their performance by ensuring that they deliver exactly what the user looks for. The problem is accentuated by the abundance of web pages containing the keyword or the keyword phrase. However, by using web crawlers and indexing, search engines manage to filter all the sites that are irrelevant to the search being made even if it has the keywords. They have created their own unique processes for examining different web pages and their contents.</p>
<p>Increasingly search engines have been implementing a page ranking system in which each page&#8217;s descriptions, keywords and content are scanned for relevancy to the inputted keyword and their index. Pages with higher ranks get seen more often at the top of the list. If a site is linked to a high ranking website that site receives a vote that increases its ranking.</p>

<p>The internet has opened up markets that firms and individuals could not previously reach with ease. With a website, you are able to market and sell your product or service on the internet without much hassle and cost. If you have built a website to target these previously unreachable customers, you have to optimize it so that the customers can find it. Just having a website will not guarantee you customers. This is why search engine optimization (SEO) should be considered.</p>
<p><span id="more-536"></span>It is all about keeping the search engines happy. In other words, your website must follow most of the protocols in the search algorithm. The better your website can follow them, the more are the chances of it getting indexed and ranked higher in the SERPs. Although the algorithms used by the search engines are different, they more or less follow the same set of protocols. When you optimize your website for these algorithms, you are doing nothing but SEO.</p>
<p>Before you start optimizing your website, you have to know the keywords that you customers and prospects will use to search for your product or service. The keyword can be a single word or a number of words, in which case it would be referred to as a key phrase. After establishing the keyword or key phrase, you have to optimize it in your website. How do you do this?</p>
<p>To optimize your website, you have to use the appropriate keyword in the appropriate places. The Title tag, images tag (&#8220;alt? tag), headings, and content of your website must contain your keyword or key phrase. This will make it easier for the search engine to determine that your website is related to a certain keyword and hence rank you highly for that keyword. Ensure you space the keywords evenly on the webpage so that you are not penalized for keyword stuffing. The keywords should be used as part of a sentence and not alone. This makes it easier for your visitors to read and understand your content, and is a safe SEO practice.</p>
<p>Apart from using keywords, you should also consider link building when optimizing your website. Link the pages of your website to pages of other websites that are in the same industry as you. This will make your website to be ranked highly. Ensure that the websites you link to also link back to you as search engines look at the number of quality backlinks your website has when ranking it. Moreover, you can write articles related to your niche and submit them to article directories. This is a good way of increasing traffic and backlinks to your website. Participating in forums and blogs will also increase your backlinks and traffic as well.</p>
<p>Some of the established companies do not invest time and money into SEO, for they do not find it lucrative. They choose different methods such as PPC. However, SEO is worth a try, if you have the time and commitment to do it. If you have the same, then your answer to the question, ?is SEO the right choice?? should be &#8216;yes&#8217;.</p>
